Material Handling Information - Conventional Pallet Rack
Material Storage Buffers
Conventional Pallet Rack
Conventional pallet rack is one of the most affordable types of storage for palletized products. It is relatively easy to modify its location and adjust tier heights as storage requirements change. Conventional pallet racking also allows storage of a wide variety of load footprints in the same rack.
Locations in pallet rack may have addresses that are identified
by a Warehouse Management System (WMS)
that directs operators where to store and retrieve items.
Operations
Input
Operator either delivers load to a dedicated location for that SKU or finds an opening and records where the load was stored.
Output
Operator either retrieves full pallet from rack using
forklift, or picks individual
items off the pallet.
Applications
Primarily for storage of raw products and finished goods.
Works best in warehouses with 15 to 30 ft. ceiling clear
heights.
