Material Handling Information - Unit Load Automated Buffer

Material Storage Buffers
Unit Load Automated Buffer
The Unit Load is a high-density pallet buffer designed to maximize vertical storage space while maintaining a compact footprint. A high-speed Storage/Retrieval (S/R) machine moves loads quickly and safely, eliminating most forklift traffic. Several models are available to handle pallet loads from 2,220 to 6,600 lbs. and rack heights up to 100 ft. The unit load can also be used to store long or bulky items, hazardous materials, and it is also ideal for freezer (to -40ยบ C) and low-noise applications.

Integration Options
Technology Overview
  • Servo and vector drives support vertical, horizontal, and shuttle movement for high speed, precise load control.
  • Features
    • High-density storage.
    • Quiet operation.
    • Variable acceleration rates.
    • Fast, accurate load transfers.
  • Benefits
    • Inventory accuracy and control.
    • High-speed storage/retrieval operations while maintaining load stability.
    • Reduced operator fatigue, improved throughput, accuracy, and safety.
  • Advances over previous technology
    • Eliminates most forklift traffic.
    • Makes more efficient use of space.
Operations
  • Input
    • Loads delivered to end-of-aisle or in-rack input Pickup & Deposit (P&D) station via conveyor or lift truck.
    • S/R machine picks up load, stores it in random rack location.
  • Output
    • S/R machine retrieves load from rack as directed by control software.
    • S/R machine delivers load to P&D station for output to conveyor or manual retrieval by lift truck.
Applications
  • Recommended applications by product type:
    • Bulk buffering and storage for raw material and/or finished goods.
    • Work-in-process buffering for large items.
  • Replacement applications:
    • Conventional static rack.
    • Very-narrow aisle (VNA) rack.
