Frequent Lost Stock

Without accurate inventory control, workers spend too much time looking for material and excess inventory is needed to compensate for lost stock.

Rohm uses a mini load buffer and RF terminals at picking stations to improve inventory tracking.

Problem

Inventory records do not accurately reflect actual material on hand.
Orders cannot be properly filled due to unexpected material shortages.
High inventory carrying costs to compensate for lost stock.
Frequent cycle counting required to verify quantity and location of material.
Materials are scattered throughout warehouse.
Locations of entire stock are not tracked; only the first location is tracked with a pointer card pointing to subsequent locations.

Solution

Increase material tracking accuracy.
Track the location of all stock, allowing workers to find and pick items quickly.
Allow low quantity cycle counting during picking.

Implement directed picking and put-away techniques using technology such as pick-to-light or directed storage through RF terminals with barcode scanners.
